First Mumbles Railway Trail guided walk on 25th May

For this first MUMBLES RAILWAY (MR) TRAILon Saturday morning 25/5/24, let us share a “Circular Walk – Blackpill to Norton” returning on the beach of Swansea Bay.

It was “a strange tramroad”, with limestone links to the Swansea Canal and possibly to “Morris town” – why?

Our MR overview will include horses, steam and electricity, growing over more than 150 changing years. Our memories are enhanced by remaining railway remnants, although famous art hid the MR!

At Lilliput and West Cross there are other historical and limestone links with monks, drovers and a female entrepreneur, all of whom must have crossed over the lines.

MEET 10:30am BLACKPILL JUNCTION CAFÉ [Toilets available] Introductions!

Historic Display boards + MR outline history [1804] 1807 – 1961.

Blackpill / LMSR branch – Lilliput / Grange Lane – West Cross / Washing house Lake – Norton Road / refreshment break at Ripples Café

Returning, via Swansea Bay Beach, let us search for, and find, some long ago MR remains.

Total distance about 2½ miles with refreshments and chats.
